Hi there,
Just got myself a sun monitor for my indy, and it works almost perfect.
It started in 1024×768 resolution and I switched to 1280×1024.
That works but I can only see part of the screen. It seems that the
desktop remains 1024×768, the icons on the right are off screen.
When I switch back to the old res of 1024×768 the problem remains, the
part with the Icons are gone.
Any hints? I did man setmon, but I couldn’t find anything that clears
things up for me.
Thanks,
—

Do a "vulcan death grip", by simultaneously pressing
LeftShift, LeftCtrl, F12, Keypad \. This will re-start
the Xserver, you can then log back in, and resume working
after a mode change.
If you want to reset it permanently, as root, do a
nvram monitor h (to set 1280×1024), or
nvram monitor l (to set 1024×768 – that’s a lowercase ‘L’).
