Flicker on the O2 SGI Flat Panel

Hello,
the absolutely flicker free features of the SGI Flat Panel are
reported proverbial.

However, on my O2, I noticed that a relatively large zone of several
square inches, upper left corner, is affected by a certain flicker. The
problem is limited to when displaying a particular pattern (such as
placing on that screen regions the blue colored Communicator minimized
icons).

This flicker shows only with 48p and 50p vertical refresh signal, while
disappears using the 60Hz instead.

No problem in using the 60Hz of course – everything I’ve tried still
runs smoothly at 60Hz.
However, the manual warns against problems in using the 60 Hz frequency,
with certain applications.

The question is: which are those applications the manuals speaks about?

Thanks for any hint.
-Marco

serial port

Hi,

I’m having a problem with the connection of a ttyd port greater then 4,
namely ttyd46.

I’m opening a connection with the port like this

int fd;
char *ttyport;
fd=open(ttyport, O_RDWR | O_NDELAY)

But sind we upgraded to IRIX 6.5.4 this doesn’t work anymore and with the
6.2 version it works.
What has changed sinds 6.2 ??
How should I do it now ?

kind regards,

Rare SGI Hardware Developer Handbook on eBay

I’m selling a copy of the "SGI Hardware Developer Handbook",
an SGI reference manual that might be of interest to readers
of this newsgroup.  It’s on eBay at:

<http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=178122906>

This rare guide to the SGI hardware was formerly only available
within SGI itself, and through the SGI Developer Program.  This
is version 1.1, February 1995, with a blue cover.  It is a
spiral-bound manual about an inch thick.

It is the ultimate reference to SGI hardware, from the original
4D/60, the Power series, through the Personal IRIS, the Crimson,
Indigo, Onyx, Challenge, Indigo 2 and Indy systems.  (The IRIS
systems that contained the Motorola 680X0 processors with models
numbers like 1000, 1400, 2400, 3000 and 3030 are not covered
here, though.)

It’s what you need to identify Silicon Graphics workstations and
the interfaces they use, the chassis and drive sled specs,
explanations of graphics options, specs for interfaces for
video, external and internal connectors and bus interfaces.

spacemouse and Inventor…

Hi.

We have the following problem:
We use a magellan spacemouse along with Inventor based programs we made.
Inventor do not recognize the spacemouse, so we used a trick and used
SoXtSpaceball libs…

The thing is now we upgrade to 6.5 (we were running 6.2) and it won’t
work again: Our program don’t detect a space ball…
If i go to serial device manager and set a magellan on port 2, all test
are ok, but our programs won’t work and if i set a spaceball on port 2,
the test will fail and our program will run but without spacemouse
support…

I hope someone experienced these problems and can help me…

Thanks in advance,

Tim

VINO gain, etc.

Ok, this may be either an obvious or pointless question, but
how exactly do I set the gain (luma or chroma) for an Indy’s VINO.

It seems to do so automatically im mediarecorder upon recipt
of new signal, however the resulting choice is always too dark.

Any thoughts? (besides get an Impact Video D1 card and tweak
the external ADCs? :)

What do I do? I’m a key figure in an ongoing government charade.

Faster R4400 indigo cpu?

Among other things I have a R4000/100 Indigo and a R4400/250 2mb cache
cpu module. I was thinking a 250 mhz Indigo would be bumpin’. The
question is, what are the technical limitations to the indigo mainboard
that will not allow such an upgrade?

I noticed that the R4400 is too large to fit in the case.  I have an
extra indigo case that could be cut to accommodate the larger processor.

O2 R5k to R5200

Hi there,
We have 6 O2′s
5x R5K-180sc
1x R5K-180pc

I was considering upgrading them to R5200 but we have been quoted US$
2,600 to 3,100 to do this.
Can anyone tell me if they have done this, what they paid and was it worth
it overall comsidering I could buy a PC for US 2000 that would out perform
the O2 anyway (we are not great graphics users we really need Unix
workstations on peoples desks)

Thanks

Please help in finding monitor cable

I need a monitor cable for a Hitachi CM2086A3SG-D. It should be a 13w3 male
on the comp end and three BNC connectors on the monitor end (RGB ?). The SGI
part no. for the monitor is 9330042. The people at SGI act like it never
existed, but it had to since the monitor is branded SGI and my Indigo is a
SGI product.

Thanks
