Hi there,
Just got myself a sun monitor for my indy, and it works almost perfect.
It started in 1024×768 resolution and I switched to 1280×1024.
That works but I can only see part of the screen. It seems that the
desktop remains 1024×768, the icons on the right are off screen.
When I switch back to the old res of 1024×768 the problem remains, the
part with the Icons are gone.
Any hints? I did man setmon, but I couldn’t find anything that clears
things up for me.
Thanks,
—

Help wanted: monitor problem
I have just picked up a junked 4D/35 system with no manuals.
I turned the system on and the screen displays the boot sequence ok.
But as soon as the OS is loaded, the screen has a bunch of black
vertical bars. Is this due to a configuration problem or is the
graphics circuit broken?
Thank you.
PS: if I can get the screen to work, how can I obtain root access?

If you’re reading this on Usenet, the latest edition of the SGI FAQs
has just been reposted to comp.sys.sgi.misc, comp.answers and
news.answers. (Because the comp.sys.sgi.* groups are gatewayed to
mailing lists which don’t deal with crossposts, we only post the SGI
FAQs to one of them.) If you’re reading this somewhere else, the
other FAQs should be nearby. If they aren’t, the introduction
describes several places where you can find them.

Teal vs. Purple Indigo2s
Hi!
I was unable to find the answers to these questions after a great deal
of online searching.
Can someone explain in detail what the differences are between the
XZ/Extreme Teal-colored Indigo2s and the Impact series Purple-colored
Indigo2s? (other than graphics benchmark info)
Is it only the graphics card set, or have there been changes made to the
motherboard, the overall system architecture and the power supply?
Is there a significant difference other than the case color, processor
speed and graphics sets?
Can the Impact series graphics sets be used in a 75 Mhz Power Indigo2
R8000, which was shipped with XZ?
Can the faster 150 mhz R8000 modules (often shipped in Onyxs &
Challenges) with the 4 Mb cache be used in the Power Indigo2?
Thanks in advance,
Vincent

Can the O2 read any other tapes? Can it read tapes that it has written?
It may be a head alignment problem. I ran into a DAT tape issue like
this before with audio information on a professional audio deck.
Calibration may be necesssary.
MP 320 Question
I’m currently looking to upgrade my original dual 350 PII’s to
dual PIII’s…
From previous posts I understand that the new CPU’s have to be the
same stepping number for one thing, however do they have to have the
same stepping number as the original CPU’s in my 320…i.e. 2 ? I
called SGI and they said yes, however the tech didn’t seem like they
were totally sure. After calling around for prices no one yet will
confirm that they could ship a specific stepping number…
Does anyone know what I’m talking about…?
Thanks for any info, Tony
